Nick Retterer

Our Story

Nick Retterer’s path in aviation was shaped early by family legacy. His father served as a helicopter crew chief in Iraq during the 1990s, and his grandfather was a decorated helicopter pilot in Vietnam who later flew Navy trainers and fixed-wing aircraft in Memphis, Tennessee. Growing up surrounded by their stories and service, Nick always knew aviation would be part of his future.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace with a concentration in Professional Pilot from Middle Tennessee State University, where he completed all of his flight ratings from Private Pilot through CFII. While he initially pursued a traditional career track in the airline and charter world, he soon realized his true passion was in general aviation and supporting others in the industry.

That passion led him to found R3 Aviation Services, a company dedicated to making aircraft ownership simpler, more informed, and less stressful. Nick’s mission is to guide clients through every step of the sales and acquisition process, especially first-time buyers, by offering clear advice, efficient strategies, and reliable support well beyond the transaction itself.

With a background as a Professional Pilot, Chief Flight Instructor, and Aviation Business Operator, Nick brings more than just brokerage to the table. He provides honest guidance, strategic insight, and real results built on years of hands-on experience and a trusted network within the industry.

I began my aviation career as a mechanic’s apprentice on a grass strip in Upstate New York, working on everything from vintage Piper Cubs to Beechcraft Bonanzas. That’s where my passion for aviation and commitment to meticulous maintenance began. After earning my A&P license in 2023, I moved my family to Nashville and began working on a wide variety of aircraft, from privately owned pistons to corporate jets.

My experience gives me a unique perspective in aircraft sales, especially when it comes to evaluating airframes and guiding buyers through the technical side of ownership. I’m here to bring clarity, care, and confidence to your next aircraft transaction.

I’m a third-generation aviator and CFII/MEI with a deep passion for general aviation and a career built on bold thinking and relentless execution. From advanced engineering to leading multimillion-dollar deals, my experience spans aerospace, transportation, and flight operations.

Inspired by a childhood love of flying, I’ve dedicated my career to mentoring future aviators, promoting safety, and helping clients navigate the aircraft ownership journey with confidence and clarity. Based in South Carolina, I proudly serve buyers and sellers across the Southeast and beyond.

With over 20 years of experience across airline operations, corporate flight departments, and private ownership, I bring a broad perspective to aircraft transactions. I studied Aviation Management at Arizona State University and have built my career around helping clients navigate the aviation space with clarity and confidence.

I’m a CFII and MEI with a lifelong passion for aviation.  My journey started in high school flying with the Civil Air Patrol, inspired by time spent on my grandfather’s flight simulator. That early spark led me to earn my certificates and step into professional aviation. 

With a strong background in flight instruction and results-driven approach to sales, I bring both technical knowledge and client-focused service to every transaction. I understand what buyers and sellers need because of my involvement in aviation as a trusted professional. 

When I’m not helping clients navigate aircraft transactions or training students, I enjoy spending time with my family and staying actively involved in the aviation community.
